Hi Folks,
I am wanting to put a kill switch in some where so the local numb nuts who might want to take my baby for a spin finds himself shit outta luck.

Anyone done this? Where is the best to do it? Thinking fuel pump or spark but not sure where I should be tapping into. Appreciate your insight.
Cheers
Marty

I'm guessing you have a GTV6? Residual pressure in fuel injection system may be enough for it to start and be driven to a dangerous spot like in the middle of the road, before it stops.
The 1st place any car thieve will look is the ignition lock (gotta get past that) so cutting wires there will be pretty obvious to any half switched on car thief. Get into the coil's switched power supply under the dash. Much harder to do but much harder to see which wire it is, too.

You could also put a ground wire to the negative side of the coil, find a hidden place for the switch, run a earth wire to it, then run the earth to the negative side of the coil and the car will never start, i don't like cutting into wiring looms, as it can lead to problems down the track, a steering wheel lock is a good visual theft deterent, as they can see it before they try and steal it, where kill swiches they discover after they have smashed the window to get in, Colin.

Yeah, I already have a steering wheel lock and always use it, even when i park in my locked garage... (call me anal/pedantic/fastidious) but when parking in public I worry that is not sufficient.

Appreciate the tip on residual fuel system pressure - won't go there.

Al Campbell

On my old Mazda RX4 I used to have a latching relay hooked up to disconnect the ignition ballast resistor. The relay was latched by pressing the cigarette lighter. The lighter socket had been bent so it didn't hold on till hot i.e. behaved like a momentary push-button switch. Hold the lighter in while cranking or the car would die when you released the ignition switch from "start". No hidden switch.

But if you want to prevent your GTV6 from running why not use the original ALFA design feature and disrupt the fuel pump supply wire. You can pull the correct spade terminal feeding from the AFM "flap open" on the double relay socket, or the wire from the inertia switch if fitted.

How many times have you read about someone being told to check that circuit when "Help! My GVT6 won't run."

When my starter switch had issues (died) in my old GTV, I made use of the original button on the dash for fog lights which wasn't connected to anything. Coupled with a relay so I didn't fry the switch I had an instant thief proof and standard looking ignition switch.
