GTV windscreens

I need a new windscreen to get my Sprint GTV roadworthy, does anyone have any recommendations of where to get one from....or where to avoid?

Apparently there are ones made in China popping up locally...scary.

Do you have a Alfetta GTV or a Alfasud Sprint or Alfa 33 Sprint?, try the usual suspects, such as Protector Windsreens, Windscreens O' Brians, Jims Windscreens, etc, don't worry too much where they are made, buy from a repuatable retailer, and hopefully they have weeded out all the dodgy manufacturers, and ask about Australian Standards, that should be on the Windscreen, Colin.

If you contact KMart Auto Forest Hill and ask the manager (I think it is Troy) for a contact for windscreens he'll put you in touch with a really good team who'll come out to your place and fit a gtv screen for around $225-250. I have used them twice (gtv & 156) but cannot find their phone no. at the moment. Both times the blokes were very professional fitters who knew all the tricks etc.
One thing to keep in mind is that the gtv rubbers are originally very soft (=good) but they harden with age and make installation more difficult PLUS risk of a tear, which can be glued back together BUT less than perfect. HENCE, if I was to do a gtv screen again then I would ask them about a new rubber as well PLUS search the net independently for a new rubber also ... just to see if can get one for an OK price and put that in at the same time. Keeping water out of this sealed rust prone section is a priority.

Thanks Colin and Michael, it is a Giulia Sprint GTV screen I'm looking for. After a bit of a ring around it seems they are quite freely available but they are all made in China...and even if they come from Italy, they're probably made in China originally. But as you say Colin they should be Australian Standards approved and reputable retailers have hopefully weeded out the dodgy stuff.

Thanks for the contact Michael, I'll give Troy a ring. I purchased a new seal from Turin Imports as yes the old one was cracking and brittle at the corners. Had a good talk to Joe at Turin who said you have to be careful as some of the reproduction windscreen seals the rubber isn't supple enough to fit and seal the windscreen properly...seems it's a bit of a minefield out there with the repro stuff.

I too need a windscreen for RWC, apparently, looks fine to me with no cracks or chips. I was told it is "sandblasted" or something like that.

Id be keen to know how you go and what the cost is, please update this when you find out

I was chasing one for my Super not long ago, and Jim G. Put me onto a bloke Monza motors uses who could supply both the cheaper, slightly thinner and green tinged screens, or source oem reproductions via the uk for a few more pennies.   

I'm o'seas atm and don't have the number with me - perhaps give Hugh @ Monza a bell ?

Thanks for the recommendations guys...I've had a few set backs trying to get Bertie on the road so the windscreen is still a little way off. I like the sound of the OEM reproductions from the UK, will try to find out more on them.

The windscreen seal arrived from Turin imports within a couple of days and looks like a quality item, nice and supple.

Hi All,
I am just doing the investigations up here in Queensland for the same.
John @ PGI Beenleigh 07 32871688 can supply a front screen for 105 GTV for under $150 delivered on the Gold Coast.
He has part code AR180LT for front and a part code for rear but never supplied but thinks it means they will supply in the future.

Can anyone source rear screens?   I am planning to change my roof liner and the trimmer has advised there is a good chance they can break  when they pop-out.

Probably not much of a help as I am in Sydney but ... I have a couple of rear screens and a front one also ... plus come to think of it ... a 116 sedan front and rear ...

Can anyone source rear screens?   I am planning to change my roof liner and the trimmer has advised there is a good chance they can break  when they pop-out. 

Find a more experienced trimmer. They're piss-easy to pop out in complete safety, though more fun to get back in again. To get them out, tilt the seats forward and lie in the back with your head on the hand-brake and feet on the windscreen. Push gently and evenly on both sides while you ease the top of the rubber grommet with your fingers, especially at the corners. You'll feel it slip loose, and you can get out of the car to lift it out. You don't even need a helper, but have one nearby if you're nervous.

To put it back, you need plenty of dishwashing detergent - don't water it down much if at all or it runs off. Get some 4-6mm cord and run it around the groove from the top to the bottom corners. Make everything slippery and place the bottom of the grommet over the lip. The top of the glass will sit 2" above the hole and will look like it surely can't go in there. Push it down as hard as you can - toward the back of the car - the objective is to stretch the grommet around the lower lip. Then get inside, and gently pull the cord EVENLY and EQUALLY from both ends, easing each cord left and right to pull the grommet lip back inside the car. When you've gone far enough that it seems like the grommet lip won't be long enough to reach inside, get outside and pull the screen down - HARD. I wound up squatting on mine in bare feet, and sitting on the top edge of the screen whilst bouncing - but mine is especially hard. Then get inside and you'll find the grommet can go quite a lot further. Repeat until the cord meets itself in the middle, and then pull the screen down again until it sits right.

All of this (removal and refitting) must be done with the aluminium trim fitted in the grommet. Don't try to remove or refit it with the glass in the car.
