Boys and girls in Vic, need help identifying a 1998 916 series Spider. It's currently silver in colour with red leather interior. I'm about to purchase this motor from its current NSW owner, who has owned it for past 2 years. He was unaware of the fact that it was a repairable economic write-off from a collision in Vic in 2006. It remained off the road until its repair and sale to him in 2010.
At the time of its collision it had Vic rego PBB338 which was subsequently cancelled. I'd really like to know the extent and location on the body of where the damage occurred. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm flying over to where the vehicle is next Thursday, so I'm crossing my fingers that someone remembers the spider.

Well troops, took the plunge and ownership of a this little motor. A bit of a mystery bag, but it was too good a deal to let go. The six hour drive home went by in a flash and the engine just purred along. The car was a surprise for the misses as we were looking at a second car to make life a little easier. She still hasn't stopped grinning. The exhaust had a great little sporty blurt high up in the rev range, however I swapped it for a sports cat back system from 'Woody' at Penrith Muffler Man in Kingswood. He's been in the business for decades and knows his motor sports.

Nice to hear that it worked out well cool jesus. I love the red leather. It looks like the wheels have changed since the original photo, but my preference anyways is for the latter ones.

I found the owners had sought some assistance on this forum when they first purchased it in 2010

Unbelievably, the advice wasn't followed when I was informed that the timing belt hadn't been replaced since some time in 2006 and they were looking at changing it at the 120k mark ??? WTF, I had a six hour drive with 7 year old timing belt and pulleys... Anyhow, it got me home without an issue. So, with absolutely no service history, receipts or documentaion of any sort other than rego papers with only a week rego left, RWC and the adverse history I had located, I was able to negotiate a steal on this little mystery bag. I dare say the owners were scared off by maintenance costs involved, as he exclaimed at the costs of recently replacing the platinum plugs. This, along with local mechanics and owner's lack of Alfa knowledge may have scared them from continued ownership. (mind you its only his word that I had, no paperwork???)

Actually, I turned up with more paperwork than the owner on the vehiclews history.

Its in pristine condition, especially after a thorough detail with only 84k on the clock. Closer inspection seems to show the car was caught between two cars and no doubt the replacement panels and parts were just to prohibitive in cost at the time. Anyhow, its in at Brian Foley's tomorrow and looking forward to those sunny days...

Congrats Cool Jesus.

Was looking at a value spider for my next purchase.  The red leather interior is a real standout and thought it could be a appropriate Spettacolo class winner.

If it is in good nic, bought at a reasonable price and you have done the required work, then you have a great car that will not let you down.

Cheers

Thanks JH, actually yeah I hadn't even contemplated Specttacolos. I'll have to make sure I get onto the little details to make it shine just that little bit extra then... I've got my 'topless' rego plates on order (TOP13S) along with a few other bits of bling aswell. I'm very releived to have had the tinming belt done too.
