thanks everyone, ended up finding one at repco (27mm) however the clearances are not that good and i find that the socket does not go deep enough into the nut to give a good grip when using a socket so its very difficult to get out....might try filing the edges of the circumference of the socket to get a better access

I work in a engineering supply shop what size in hex socket are you after as I have access to several brands.

See if you can get a thin wall socket or a tube spanner if clearance is a problem, 27mm = 1.062 inch, or  1 1/16 inch, to get a bit more choice, when i need to modify a spanner or socket, i buy a cheap rubbishy tool, because i cannot bring myself to butcher a good Sidchrome!, Colin.
