Hello
I have just been told my timing belt broke and the fix depending on the level of damage will be around $7,000. This is the rough quote from a very helpful local alfa dealer. I thought a trusted Alfa specialist on either the gold coast or Brisbane may be better for the job. Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you

Get a good second hand motor from a Alfa Romeo wrecker, have a look on the 147 ebay site, get one with a warranty, there have been about 3 different versions of the twin spark motor, make sure you get the correct one, go to a independant Alfa Romeo specialist, i am sure they have fitted twin spark motors before, the $7000 qouted is for the engine to be reconditioned, a low kilo replacement would be fine as the car is 7 years old, without rubbing salt into the wounds, a broken motor bill is $7000, a cam belt change is $1000 max, do it on time and save the heartache, Colin.

Yup, what he says.

Do some research, talk to some local specialists (Automotion in Albion, John French in Woollongabba), make an informed decision on their feedback. And watch the cam belt service intervals in the future  ;)

Hope you get it sorted as painlessly as possible.

definitely source a good second hand motor, the twinnie is not too expensive, around $1,500. add a belt kit on that and labour for the swap and you're done....

The Qld alfisti may have up to date list of Alfa specialists but I know Alfamotive in Brisbane area were most helpful for me.
