DRIVE second hand European cars, Alfa Brera

ALFA BRERA-2006-2011, Sometimes a brand has too much baggage for prices to hold up accross the board. If the Alfa Brera experience is anything to go by, Alfa Romeo could be a victim of this phenomenon. Prices have plummeted to the extent you wouldn't bother with the 4 cylinder version now, you'd go straight for the lusty V-6 with its 191kw and masses of torque. Against a brand new price of just $95,000 when it was launched in 2006, that same Brera V-6 now commands closer to mid $20,000's. Tales of reliability woes abound in Alfa-Land, but at that price, you'd still be able to afford the repairs and servicing. The lack of automatic transmission didn't help the Brera's cause in the early days, an auto became available in 2007 and neither did the importer chopping $7,000 off the sticker price after the first year on sale. The latter fact had the effect of slicing a huge chunk out of the residual value. All of which is good news for buyers of second hand Brera's who will be getting one of the most dramatically styled cars of the past decade, from $25,000, Author David Morley from the AGE Drive liftout 8-12-2012, Colin.

I had a chuckle at the price of an Audi, at first when I read it I thought it said R8 not A8, I thought 'best of luck finding one of those at sub $50k prices'.....der....

Interesting.

I had the thought of getting a Porsche Cayenne S as a tow car and for the wife.  Cheap enough, low $30K.  But the fuel consumption would have killed me, at 20L/100km.

Also thought about the Merc ML class, cheap too.

Neil, you could always put the Cayenne S on gas, but don't know about the diesel version with NO diesel in Victoria at the monent, as the servo's have 00.00 for their diesel prices, Colin.

Spare parts would kill you . A mate of mine has got one . The strut on the rear hatch failed . He was quoted $1500.00 for the genuine replacement part . He now has a non genuine  rear strut.

I did hear about that today.  About 3 hours after I'd bought $100 worth this morning.  Timed that well I guess.  Or it's a media beat-up.... surely not.

Cayenne spare parts would be cheaper from the UK, as they are most likely being scrapped, in Melbourne, still a diesel shortage, to and from work they have truck diesel prices outside the servo, but for normal diesel $000, in Melbourne petrol prices go up and down like a brides robe, but diesel prices remain the same all the time, Brera would be a great car at $25,000, along with the plummenting prices of 147 & 156 GTA's, Colin.
