The Alfa Romeo GTV and the Alfa Romeo Spider (Tipo 916) were sports cars produced from 1993 to 2004. The GTV (Gran Turismo Veloce) is a 2+2 coupé and a follower to the long-discontinued Alfetta GTV coupé. The Spider is a two-seater roadster version of the GTV and effectively the replacement for the then 30-year-old 105-series Giulia Spider. These were replaced by the Brera and 939 Spider in 2006.

The Australian model sold in very well for a small volume Italian import. A number of specialists exist to service, repair and supply spare parts for the cars. Parts availability is good. In addition, many club members have a good knowledge of 156s. The range went through two facelifts in 2002 and 2003.
